Volvo will not develop a flagship

Farewell to the Volvo flagship. The news were announced at the Shanghai Motor Show by Hakan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo. According to the number one Swedish brand, the flagship powered by V8 and V12 engines would not be compatible with the image of Volvo cars or safe or for those who care about the health of the environment. The items on the production of a Volvo flagship became more concrete when Li Shufu, chairman of the Chinese manufacturer Geely and Volvo owner, had advised that a car in the Volvo brand can compete with the premium German competitors.

Despite the fact that the suggestion came from the Chinese manager, in Sweden they did not like the idea of a flagship. Volvo’s efforts will focus on the creation of a platform for compact cars shared with Geely which can create higher sale volumes in China. By the end of the year it will debut in the Asian country. It will be the Volvo V40 and within two years of dealerships in China it will rise from the current 150 to over 250 points of sale.

This strong expansion of stores could change the fate of the Volvo flagship. If the new products get the desired success Samuelsson has left a door open for the production of the Volvo flagship.
