The BMW i8 will be available on the market in June

The plug-in hybrid model of BMW, the i8, will be launched very soon and now we have the full technical details of the Bavarian pioneering model. For the highly anticipated BMW i8 we have spoken several times in the past. We return to the question to let you know about the time of arrival, but also to quote you some technical elements that were missing.

Chassis

The BMW i8 is a 2+2 seated model with a length of 4,489 mm. The width is 1,942 mm and the height is 1,293 mm, while the wheelbase is extended to 2,800 mm. Its weight is 1,485 kg, the rate is very low aerodynamic (Cd: 0.26), while the center of gravity is below 460 mm. It offers passenger cell from CFRP, doors combined with CFRP aluminum instrument panel bases of magnesium, aluminum frame and separating the passenger-baggage from fine crystal.

Plug-in hybrid system

The plug-in hybrid system consists of a 3 cylinder petrol Euro 6 engine and an electric motor. The TwinPower Turbo engine of 1.5 liters delivers 231 hp/5.800 rpm and 320 Nm/3.700 rpm. The power is distributed to the rear wheels via a 6 speed automatic transmission. The i8 is the first production model of the BMW 3 cylinder petrol engine bearing, while specific output of 154 hp/liter in displacement, is the highest of any engine of the BMW Group. The total electric BMW eDrive technology has performance 131 hp and 250 Nm of torque and works with automatic two relations in order to send power to the front wheels. So the BMW i8 has transmission AWD. H Li-ion batteries are high voltage, liquid cooling system and has little capacity of 7,1 kWh.

Performance

The combined power of the hybrid system is 362 hp and gives the BMW i8 explosive performance. Specifically, the 0-100 km/hr comes in 4.4 seconds to accelerate the move of 80-120 km/hr it needs only 5.6 seconds, and reaches from 0 to 1,000 meters in 22.8 dl. The issue, however, is that the performance is achieved with these unreal economic and the consequent ecology of thing. The BMW i8 needs only 2.1 lt/100 km of gasoline and 11,9 kWh/100 km power, while CO2 emissions are around 49 g/km.

In action

The special plug-in hybrid system, which was developed and produced by the BMW Group, gave autonomy of 37 km in everyday driving and a top speed of 120 km/hr on electric power alone. The usual daily movements can be covered with an average consumption of less than 5 lt/100 km when using the two drive units. In mixed driving conditions, the actual consumption does not exceed 7.0 lt/100 km while on long trips not exceeding 8 lt/100 km.

With the five driving programs, drivers adjust their performance and sportiness in accordance with their wishes. These functions are controlled via buttons Driving Experience Control. The daily range of the BMW i8 fully with a full tank and a fully charged battery in COMFORT mode is up to 600 km.
