Peugeot Exalt | Future vision

Two years after the original Onyx, Peugeot focused on its vision for the future of vehicles by presenting the Exalt. The hybrid Exalt not only incorporates the design vision of the French, but the progress on the use of innovative materials. The Exalt’s body is composed, like the Onyx, with bare metal and durable fabric, which the Peugeot calls “shark skin” because it has the same texture. Inside, Peugeot adopts materials such as specially treated natural wool, aged skin, bare steel and ebony. The luxurious wood, has carvings created by the design house Pinwu, causing the interior to acquire items from Chinese tradition. These are accompanied by the Peugeot i-Cockpit, with fluorescent lighting and Pure Blue air filter, to create a special atmosphere.

The 4.70 meters long Exalt acquires the sporty design of the identity of the extended width and muscular wheel arches, from a low height, sloping roof and 20 inch wheels, the many flats and veins of the body, which was created by hand, as a remembrance of the style applied by Peugeot the 1920s and ’30s. According to Peugeot, the use of fabric in the rear help reduce the aerodynamic drag, with the duct diffuser at the end of the rear bumper, the curve in the center of the roof and exterior mirrors, among others.

The i-Cockpit, interior, has the following characteristics: small wheel with a sizable screen and a rear center console that contains old style paddles, but also two touch screens that fold into it. The upper screen gives access to the audio system and navigation system and a separate air conditioning system and Pure Blue. The driver has the ability to “fix” every lever which operates wishes, as access to the navigation system or car settings or to activate the fluorescent lighting, which makes it more comfortable driving at night and offers better visibility of markings on road. It weighs 1,700 pounds and the hybrid system yields combined 340 horsepower. The 4 cylinder 1.6 THP petrol engine delivers 260 horsepower and is accompanied by a 50 kW electric motor that is mounted on the rear axle.

The Exalt is a four wheel drive car and has a 6 speed automatic transmission, while the batteries are being charged not only by gasoline but also by recovering kinetic energy from braking. The system makes HYbrid4 naturally automatically adjust between the use of only the electric motor, only the gasoline or both, depending on the power requirements in each driving situation.
