Mercedes – Benz presents two new models, E300 Hybrid and E400 Hybrid

For Mercedes Benz, Detroit Auto Show 2012 was even more special since they brought their two new hybrid models into the car roster. The E300 Hybrid and E400 Hybrid one of which is about to be launched next year.

Mercedes Benz E400 Hybrid which is about to be launched in 2013, it is going to be gasoline-electric car while the Mercedes Benz E300 Bluetec Hybrid will be diesel electric. The E400 will be offered to US market and the E300 will be for European market. The E300 will have two body styles, sedan and wagon.

Both cars will be featuring the manufacturer’s intelligent hybrid concept which comes with 27 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque coming from electric motor and internal combustion engine. The gear box is integrated with seven-speed 7G Tronic automatic. The electric engine of the car in both models will be powered with lithium ion battery which is about 0.8 kWh. Just like their rival, these two hybrids are the newest in the category of E-class hybrids. They are capable of traveling using only their electric engine. This is possible only for short distances with speed less than 35mph.

Now let’s take a look at the numbers as this makes hybrid fans curious.

The E400 Hybrid will get a 3.5 liter V-6 engine and it will be able to produce about 302 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. If you combine it with its electric motor, it can carry a luxurious sedan and reach 0 to 60 mph in less than 7 seconds. The top speed of the car is about 130 mph. According to the car manufacturer the E400 hybrid will be returning a good gas mileage. This model is much better than the standard E350.

Now lets see what E300 can do! E300 Hybrid has an electric motor with 2.1 liter 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine. It will be able to produce 201 hp and 369 lb ft of torque. It can reach 0 to 60 mph in just 7.5 second. The top speed is about 150 mph. Based on some initial testing, the fuel efficiency is about 56 mpg. The hybrid sedan will get a stop-start system, good brakes, aero dynamic aids and low resistant tires.

These two high tech luxuries are featuring light aluminum and carbon fiber emission. This is something that would certainly reduce the emissions of the car. Definitely it is greener and very efficient.

  1. Mercedes Benz has accomplished much since its inicpteon. However, many feel that the good old German engineering quality is lacking in recent years. Has innovation replaced quality?
