While the petrol engine has five-speed manual transmission, the diesel variant has four-speed automatic transmission and is the most competitively priced vehicle in its category. The fuel economy of the car is impressive for both diesel and petrol variants, with the former offering a city mileage of 13.8kmpl and a highway mileage of 17.9kmpl and the latter offering a city mileage of 9.8kmpl and a highway mileage of 15.9kmpl. On the design front, the car has received a mini facelift from the original version, though a makeover would have been more appropriate keeping the competition in mind

On the flip side

Verna does lose out to competition when it comes to high speed handling capacity. Other sedans in its category also outperform it in auto dynamics and suspension set up, thus making it a less suitable option for driving on uneven roads, as you will feel every bump. On the other hand, its low speed steering makes it a good choice for negotiating city traffic. Furthermore, its four-speed automatic gearbox falls short of the segment prerequisite of five-speed gearbox.

Final verdict

Great style, superior performance, cozy interiors, and competitive pricing make Hyundai Verna one of the top sellers in its segment. However, this does not discount its less than impressive high-speed ride. Nonetheless, good low speed ride, the extensive list of features available, and good low speed ride override this slight shortfall, especially for city dwellers who want light steering to negotiate city traffic. If you are looking for a well-packaged car that makes heads turn when you take it out for a spin, Verna is the right choice for you
