A Mustang in the Empire State Building

Two of the most recognized names on the planet meet in the same place on 16-17 of April. Namely, the new Ford Mustang will be exposed to the Observatory by the famous Empire State Building skyscraper in New York. The presentation, identical to the corresponding operation of the company 50 years ago, coinciding with the global celebration of the 50th anniversary of the appearance of the Mustang at the World Exhibition in New York in 1964. To upload a car 86 floors above the densely populated streets of Midtown Manhattan is no simple task. No portable crane can not reach the 86th floor observatory and the conical turret over the relatively narrow patio makes it impossible to approach by helicopter.

So, the only feasible solution is the elevators. When the Empire State Building opened in 1931 as the tallest building in the world, a title that lasted for almost 40 years, nobody imagined that it could be transported there on a car with the original lifts. But in 1965, an original Mustang convertible was divided into three main sections plus the windshield in order to fit into the elevators.

The new Mustang is nearly 18 cm longer and 10 cm wider than the ancestor, which further complicates the transfer process. Using computer data and preparing the exhibition model, team members who have undertaken the project, identified the points cut to load all in specially designed carts through elevators. When everything transferred to the 86 floor, technicians in less than six hours to assemble the pieces into a complete car which will be exhibited over Manhattan. Visitors to the Observatory Empire State Building will be able to see the new Mustang convertible from 8 am to 2 pm, on 16-17 April.

Also starting on April 16, fans representatives of 16 countries will gather in the U.S. to celebrate the 50 years of Ford Mustang. The official international celebration will be so large that the Ford Motor Company and the Mustang Club of America will support simultaneously in two locations from 16-20 April . It is open to all, not only in Mustang owners and members of the MCA. The MCA has also organized the Pony Drives Mustang owners that they can travel in groups in each region.

Groups with similar flags of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, will represent North America, South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand on the slopes of Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The new Mustang is the latest version of the legendary car will go on sale in Europe in 2015. The aerodynamics, new design of Mustang fastback and convertible supported by top performance of an engine, including a new turbocharged 2.3 EcoBoost and a 5.0 V8 with over 426 PS.

The Ford Mustang was unveiled to the world with a television ad campaign on the evening of April 16 in 1964, before being presented to the public at the World’s Fair in New York on April 17. The car was launched officially on sale that day and Ford dealers counted 22,000 sales and orders that first day, a record number, that first year totaled 418,000 and 1 million in less than two years. Over the past five decades, have been sold more than 9 million Mustang.
