Why pick the BMW 5 Series Saloon?
The BMW 5 Series is one of BMW’s longest running models, and, as such, has been through many model evolutions through its long lifetime. And there is no better way to fine tune a car than remodel, rework and reshape it over time, with constant feedback from the public. BMW’s 5 Series is one of those lucky cars.
However, it is arguably the very latest BMW 5 Series that is the most handsome, sporting and yet still frugally focused 5 Series ever. And that’s saying something!

The current BMW 5 Series bodyshell is surely one of the most neatly sculpted executive-class cars on sale today, with a real standout look all its own and some fabulous lines that work in pleasing harmony. It’s true that it’s the biggest 5 Series model ever produced, but that extra size on the outside grows the space on the inside.
It’s a very angular and aggressive looking design for the newest, current 5 Series, which isn’t necessarily to everyone’s taste, but in the new car market sector where many of the other offerings are beginning to blend into one another, at least the 5 Series stands out in its sharp suit.

The BMW 5 Series is a true five-seater, in that up to five adults can ride in the car without feeling cramped and with a good amount of boot space for all of their associated luggage. Indeed, the BMW 5 Series would easily take the average family and all of their belongings on holiday.
Of course, as with any manufacturer, you get what you pay for in terms of interior options, gadgets and luxury, with the German brands being notoriously less than generous with the standard kit that comes with each model. BMW are no different.
That’s the beauty of the options list – you don’t have to pay for it if you don’t want it, but you’ll still be safe in the knowledge that every BMW 5 Series is very well engineered with a safe and exciting chassis and the best that BMW can offer in terms of economical engine choices. If you want to dress it up after that, you can.

It’s probably the BMW 5 Series engine range that most strongly attracts buyers, along with its ultra-modern looks and impressive road presence. There’s a wide range of petrol and diesel engines – all turbocharged for better throttle response, torque and all-round economy – and with the BMW 5 Series brand drivers are assured of the latest green technology, to match outright performance. That’s a very attractive mix, just look at the wide range of 5 Series cars available at Listers.

The cream of the crop
Now you might think that the high performance BMW M5 is the cream of the 5 Series crop, and, to a certain extent, you’d be right. But there is also the BMW 535d M Sport, which as the name suggest is a big, 3-litre turbodiesel beastie that only just fails to keep right up with the almighty M5, and is much more fuel efficient than the M5. But, at a snip under £50,000 it’s not much cheaper than the M5!
Indeed, the BMW 535d M Sport is a showpiece for how much speed, excitement and economy performance BMW can bring to a diesel powered car, and this alone is an excellent advert for the 5 Series, and a big part of why so many people choose it.
