The new Opel Astra 2015 | Compact and lighter

With a more dynamic design, lighter chassis and new engines, the debut of the seventh series of Opel Astra is expected to be in 2015. Keep reading and you find out the first information about it.

The current generation (J) of the Opel Astra has done well in the commercial arena, but the company needs to launch the new, seventh (R) generation of the compact model in order to cope with the increased competition resulting from new models such as the Peugeot 308. The new Astra has has already been around with heavy camouflage during the tests about it. There is, however, a computational photography which reveals the possible final image of the new model and it looks promising.

As we can see from the picture, the new Astra has a clear design inspired by the original Monza, which was presented last year in Frankfurt. This image shows a sizeable dynamic mask, with many vents and a new front bumper, featuring several corners. So the new design creates a sharper and more aggressive set. In addition, its elongated headlights (taken from Monza) emphasize the dynamic look and modern design of the new model.

Engines

Furthermore, the new compact Opel is expected to lose 50 to 100 kilos, which in itself is big news, as the existing generation Astra had many concerns in this matter. So, combined with the improved (more than probably) aerodynamics, improved fuel consumption from its existing engines are to be expected. Moreover, the new Astra will feature the new 3-cylinder, 1.0 SIDI Turbo engine with 115 hp and 166 Nm of torque, which has been brought by the Monza concept, while new 1.6 liter in petrol and diesel engines will be available.

Launch

The new Astra will be built outside Germany, as the production in Rüsselsheim plant will be shut down. Instead, it will be made in Gliwice, Poland and Ellesmere Port in the UK. The model will be available in the same body styles including the Sports Tourer and the coupe (GTC) version. The launch of the 7th consecutive Opel Astra is expected to become either the next Geneva Motor Show or in its homeland, the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015. The commercial debut of the new Opel Astra probably be in late 2015 or in early 2016.
