Testing the renewed SEAT Ibiza 1.2 TDI diesel
SEAT Ibiza in its latest fourth generation continues to be a strong card in the range of the Spanish brand, while after the renewal occurs a more modern reference to Leon. Its aggressive design is outlined by the front lights, the narrow grille and sharp edges that traverse the body in all its aspects. The range is rich since it includes three bodystyles (3-door, 5-door and Wagon), while the engines start with the 1.2 liter and 70hp and reach 180hp in the Cupra version.

The 1.2 TDI engine, moderate in performance and functionality
The diesel powerplant of 1.2 liters that is featured in Ibiza is a three-cylinder one and delivers 75 horsepower and 180 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Like other cars in the category (eg Skoda Fabia, VW Polo), this motor engine shows appreciable vibration and rattling, especially at lower revs. On the daily commuting with continuous speed variations and stop – go during traffic, the 1.2 TDI is tiring as its rpm is low (under 1,800), which becomes intense during hill starts. On the open road, the motor provides a good mid-range pull and in combination with the 5-speed gearbox and its sparse scaling, it can comfortably let you enjoy a trip. However, with the 5th gear and 90 km/h, you have to shift down to the 4th gear since the engine is not performing that well. In terms of fuel consumption, SEAT announces that it is 3.8lt/100 km, a figure that in practice and during the test seemed more than optimistic.

Neat interior with a good car room
The interior of the renewed SEAT Ibiza is not aesthetically impressive and unlike its external design it has colorless simple design and decoration. This does not affect its fianl image, however, which is that of car that is of a very good quality and attentive to detail, as SEAT has been making them in recent years. The dashboard has a soft material at the front while the fit of all parts is excellent. The seating in the cabin is enough for 4 passengers with its luggage space having a volume of 292 liters that is one of the biggest in the category.

Neutral while driving with safe touch and good feeling
While driving it, the renewed SEAT Ibiza 1.2 TDI is a car that is capable of covering every need by offering good levels of comfort to passengers through its suspension and safety at all times. Neutrality is the key element of Ibiza in this version. The engine can in no way compromise the robust chassis, thus Ibiza remains faithful to the driver’s commands and it is even exaggerating to demonstrate safety and ease of handling. The feeling that takes the driver from the steering is good in every case while the brakes are more than sufficient for its safe stop.
