Tesla | The autonomous car ready in three years
The eclectic and multi talented 42 year old American entrepreneur Elon Musk, owner of the House of luxury electric cars Tesla is convinced that between just three years we could buy a car capable of highly sophisticated driving. The idea of an autonomous car is obviously not a novelty whereas the testing of this type of car has already begun for some years. Just think of the projects carried out by Mercedes, Volvo and Volkswagen without forgetting the Google autonomous cars made on the basis of some Toyota Prius and Lexus RX450h. The stars of long experiments carried out on many roads open to the public in the United States. What is surprising in the statement of Musk concerns the timing on the implementation of the project. The American entrepreneur is convinced to achieve this ambitious goal first in 2016, in just 3 years. Making a car is definitely a totally robotic project not too ambitious, Musk said in an interview with the Financial Times adding that Bridging the 10% of more complex situations than normal while driving seems very difficult. We want to Tesla to create a car capable of driving alone in 90% of cases or in the usual paths as roads, streets and highways in all those paths that do not present particular obstacles or risks.

In practice, the autonomous car Tesla should be driven like a plane in the most risky situations such as turbulence the pilot takes the lead while in the rest of the trip that is for almost the entire duration we rely on a autopilot. Also on the car robot, the driver in case of emergency or critical situations can regain control of the vehicle at any time and then recommit to automatically guide the rest of the way. Obviously in the sky there is much less traffic and there are fewer obstacles but the operation between a navigation system mounted on a plane and one mounted on a car is quite similar. Besides, the autonomous car seems like a natural evolution of current technologies used on most modern and expensive cars. For years many flagships use radar and cameras that can detect obstacles and communicate with the on board computer and a satellite navigation system providing a semi automatic assistance that can intervene at any time and even avoid imminent collisions.

One of the problems that still has not been answered is on the fault to be given in the event of an accident between two autonomous cars. Fear of the car constructors world it seems is precisely the risk of being sued for damages in case of tamponade.
