Porsche 918 Spyder news and details
Porsche has released new official images of its future hybrid 918 Spyder hypercar. Anticipated by many rumors, the 918 Spyder presents itself as a worthy rival of the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari as evidenced by the times performed by a pre series of the Teutonic sports at the Nurburgring route in just 7 minutes and 14 seconds or in 20 seconds less than the time carried by the Porsche Carrera GT. The technological solutions applied to both the aesthetics and the mechanics of the car led to the creation of the most extreme Porsche ever, characterized by very refined aerodynamics that adapts to the various needs of the moment and comes with superlative handling, developed through the experience gained in competitions by the German manufacturer.

Looking more closely at the mechanics of the car, there is the powerful 4.6 liter V8 engine positioned behind the seats which is capable of a power output of 608 hp managed by the automatic sequential PDK which has seven gears. To achieve this refined V8 unit, Porsche’s engineers have used the best materials and components existing as evidenced by the presence of titanium connecting rods, crankshaft lightweight steel and certain components made of precious and very light carbon fiber. Besides being a unit capable of high performance, this engine is able to release an engaging sound thanks to the presence of the particular exhaust system called top pipes that consists of two huge strong outputs positioned immediately above the propeller. The choice to place the drain in this particular configuration is not a simple aesthetic and sound but helps dissipate heat effectively without heating the battery pack positioned in the lower part of the car.

These are dedicated to a unit of electricity of 115 Kw positioned on the back and to the electric motor of 96 Kw installed in the front for a total capacity of no less than 880 hp. The batteries can be recharged in about four hours or 25 minutes if you have the Porsche Speed Charging Station which is available on request. Despite the extra weight of the many electrical components, the 918 weighs only 1640 kg and the weight distribution is slightly biased in the rear with a ratio of 43:57. To balance the car has the sophisticated PASM adaptive damping system combined with the rear axle steering up to 3 degrees. The car has five different driving settings, selectable by a hand lever on the steering wheel. If you opt for the E-Power mode, the 918 Spyder has a range of zero emission for 30 km although able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 7 seconds and touch 150 km / h as top speed.
