This year Mercedes will adopt a new version of its 4Matic all-wheel permanent drive, which is totally based on a fully variable torque distribution based on the specific driving conditions. The 2013 edition of the 4Matic system is ready to debut the all-new Mercedes CLA and CLA 45 AMG which will make its entry in the lists written down by Mercedes next year. The “cornerstone” of the new Mercedes 4Matic system is device PTU – Power Take-off Unit located at the 7G-DCT dual-clutch operated, developed to transfer torque to the rear axle on an ongoing basis and in accordance to the instantaneous driving conditions and road surface.

A clutch is provided with lamellae and it is electrohydraulic and integrated to the rear axle which actuates the system for distributing torque between the two axles. Its system is instantly variable as a function of the driving situation (on-demand system torque), thanks to a pump located at the rear which is controlled by the electronic device ESC.

In addition, the CLA Mercedes AMG  is equipped with the 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder 211 hp and 400 Nm of torque, the new drive 4Matic will be combined with the ESP control unit device equipped with three progressive mode setting.

These are the different types of tax administration through the 7G-DCT transmission. If the mode of transmission is set to “ECO”, the torque acts mostly on the front wheels. In contrast, in “SPORT” or “MANUAL” the distribution of torque is progressively faster and more towards the rear.
