Mazda RX-8, a low-cost sports car

The Mazda RX-8 is the RX-7’s successor. Developed by Mazda Motor Corporation it came out in 2001. The RX-8 is the only car in America with a rotary engine. The development of the car actually began with the Mazda RX-1 back in the mid 1990s.

Exterior

The RX-8 looks like a modern coupe with a sleek streamlined appearance. The design of the doors makes it easy to get in and out of the vehicle. It has many resemblances to its predecessors. The cabin has compact rear doors and striking fender flares. The hood is also quite lengthy. Its exterior appearance gives it the look of a really fast car. The tailpipes are bigger than its predecessors making it more attractive. The car’s fascia has been redesigned as well.

Interior

The first thing that comes to mind when examining the RX-8’s interior is its spaciousness. There is sufficient room not just for the passengers but for some cargo too. The dark interior gives it a jazzy modern look. The RX-8’s cockpit has a circular central dash control stack and three round gauges. The control stack offers you complete control over the music player. It also lets you manage the climate in the vehicle. In terms of style, the car has triangular and circular features complementing its engine. The interior is composed of durable plastic which is very strong. One more thing is that its backseats can really be used and are comfortable. This isn’t something you always see in low-cost sports cars.

Performance

The car is capable of producing 212 HP @ 7,500 rpm if fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Equipped with a 6-speed manual, the 1.3-liter RENESIS two-rotor rotary engine generates 232 HP @ 8,500 rpm. Regardless of the transmission used, the torque is the same: 159 lb ft @ 5,500 rpm. One of the best features of the RENESIS rotary engine is the fact that it keeps displacement at a minimum despite its horsepower production. The engine is also light compared to other cars in its class. Some of its other features are its Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, anti-lock brakes and ventilated front/rear brakes. The steering wheel provides exceptional feedback and moving around corners is easy thanks to its grip. If you are looking for the ultimate in efficiency then the manual model is ideal. For other drivers, the auto transmission is more suitable.
