Mazda announced that 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata will start at $25,735
Mazda has revealed that the starting price of their fourth-generation 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata will begin at $25,735. The newest model, which is total redesign from the previous year’s, first debuted in September 2014 and showed a lot of promise. The vehicle is set to go on sale this summer.
When the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata debuted last year, the company made a promise that the vehicle would return to its roots: a lightweight sports car that also pays attention to the needs of modern era drivers.
While the 2016 model of the MX-5 Miata is bit lower, it’s also wider. The North American specification is powered by a Skyactiv 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is capable of producing 155 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. The current horsepower shows a decrease from the previous (now outgoing) model which was capable of 167 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. Then again, the North American version is more powerful than the model destined for Europe as that is powered by a 1.5-liter direct-injected gasoline capable of producing 129 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque.
According to MX-5 vehicle line manager Rod McLaughlin, the three trim levels available for the sports car – Sport, Club and Grand Touring – are specially made for three very different kinds of customers which broadens the appeal of the MX-5.
The Sport model, McLaughlin said, is for those who are looking for “a pure, lightweight, unadulterated wind-in-the-hair driving experience.” The Club, on the other hand, is for drivers “seeking a more aggressive appearance and driving experience.” Lastly, the Grand Touring models are “for loyal MX-5 owners who seek premium amenities and a driving experience that only MX-5 can deliver.”
The $25,735 starting price is for the Sport model that is coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. Further details on pricing and option details for the other trim levels will be released by Mazda close to the start of sales.
