Country Car | The Steed Tracker

The Great Wall Steed, Britain’s best value 4×4, double-cab pickup truck is now available in two special editions: the Steed Chrome and the Steed Tracker, with extras worth more than £800 included, on sale for £14,998 plus VAT. The standard Steed S has a payload of 1,050 kg and has just had its towing capacity increased to 2,500 kgs, increasing its value considerably. Great Wall has pulled out all the stops with the special edition Tracker, with numerous new features to attract those who require a vehicle for the countryside.

Making improvements and adjustments

The original Great Wall Steed made some waves in the market when it landed. Packing a 2.0 litre turbo-diesel engine, it produces torque of 305 Nm. Its main attraction was that it featured the power of most of its rivals, but for around £5,000 less. For farmers and those that use off-roaders, this was a perfect answer to their needs in the country, accounting for the vehicle’s popularity at country fairs and shows.

What’s new?

The new Steed Tracker comes with special fit General Grabber All-Terrain Tyres, an over-rail bedliner, a towbar with an audible monitor, front and rear mud flaps, rubber mats and metallic paint. The Tracker, along with the Chrome, comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, daytime running lights, remote central locking, an alarm system, electric front and rear windows, a CD/radio with USB/MP3 and Bluetooth connectivity. The audio controls are mounted on the steering wheel. Currently, there’s only one engine option: the Great Wall 2.0-litre, 16-valve turbocharged diesel engine, which puts out 143PS.

Under the hood

The engine is water-cooled and features a dry, single stage air filter. There are four cylinders, and four valves for each cylinder. The valves operate by a double overhead camshaft. The maximum output is 143/105 at 4,000RPM. You’ll be able to get 225/305 torque between 1800 and 2800RPM.

The Steed Tracker comes well-equipped when it comes to safety technology. It has daytime running lights, driver and passenger airbags and an electric window override switch, in case you’re travelling with the little ones. It also has radio frequency remote central locking, rear-door childproof locks and a rear window demister. Additionally, it has a Thatcham-approved category 1 car alarm system.
