Classic Car Events in the UK
As the warmer weather approaches, so does the season for classic car events. If your cherished motor has been kept under lock and key all winter, perhaps it’s time to tune up the motor, renew your classic car insurance and take to the road with other enthusiasts.
There’s something for everyone. So whether you’re after a gentle countryside run, or an overland rally that will really test your car’s paces, here are a few of the top events in 2013 for classic car owners.
London to Brighton – 2 June 2013
Possibly one of the UK’s most famous classic car runs, the London to Brighton takes drivers from Brooklands Museum in Weybridge to Brighton race course, via the gorgeous Kent and Sussex countryside. Before the run starts there’s the chance to explore the museum, including the remains of its famous banked circuit. This is a non-competitive event and drivers have a choice of two routes; a shorter 60 mile route which goes via Sheffield Park in East Sussex, or a longer 100 mile run which goes via Chiddingstone Castle in Kent.

Vintage and Specialist Car Rally – 15 September 2013
First held over 30 years ago, thousands of classic car owners and enthusiasts head for Tredegar House in Gwent for this annual event. From Ford Model Tsto modern sports cars, there’s a whole host of vintage and specialist cars on display. As well as showing off your vehicle, there’s an auction which raises money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. The perfect place to head if you fancy buying (or selling) a classic vehicle.
Moffat Car Rally – 29 and 30 June 2013
The biggest classic car event in Scotland is the Moffat Car Rally which started in 1998. This two-day event comprises a run through the Scottish countryside on Saturday and a classic car show on Sunday. As well as having the chance to meet up with other classic car owners and display your vehicle, the event raises money for Macmillan Cancer Relief and Cancer Research.If you don’t think your vehicle can make it to Scotland, visit the website of the Classic Rally Association for details of other classic rallies taking place this year.

Goodwood Revival – 13 – 15 September 2013
Celebrate the golden age of motor racing at one of the UK’s leading motoring events, the Goodwood Revival. Step back in time and relive racing and driving in the 40s, 50s and 60s as period racers take to the track and historic planes take to the skies. No vehicle built after 1966 is allowed into the circuit, so whether you’re buying refreshments or being shuttled around the arena, you’ll only be using vintage vehicles. If you can’t make the revival, then there are a rel=”nofollow” host of other events held at Goodwood throughoutthe summer, including the world-famous Festival of Speed.
Peking to Paris Motor Challenge – 28 May – 29 June 2013
Fancy something more challenging? The 7,610 mile long Peking to Paris Motor Challenge runs from the capital of China to the capital of France along a route that takes in eight countries. After leaving China the 33 day rally crosses Mongolia, Russia, Ukraine, Slovakia, Austria and Switzerland before finally entering France. If you’ve missed the chance to register for this year, why not try another classic overland rally? The Vintage Cape Horntakes place in South Africa in November 2013 and The Road to Mandalay is a rally in Burma that takes place in January and February 2014.

Modball Rally – various dates
If you prefer to party hard, then the Modball Rally could be just up your street. There are three rallies in total, taking place in Europe, USA and Australia, and each of them offers you the chance to ‘drive all day and party all night’, if that’s your thing. Think Gumball, but with a choice of global destinations. Whilst most of the entrants are modern vehicles, classics can enter – and will really stand out from the crowd.
Other shows and events
This is just a selection of some of the biggest and most well-known classic car events taking place in 2013. Across the country there are a number of classic car shows and meetups, many of which are for specific makes and models of vehicles. The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu and Haynes Motor Museum in Somerset, also host a variety of car-related events throughout the year.
