Batman Tumbler replica up for sale
Great news for any super-wealthy fans of the recent Batman series, as a replica of the famous Batmobile Tumbler is now up for sale. This is one of only five in the whole world, which is partly why it commands a price tag of $1 million. The vehicle is for sale in Florida and unsurprisingly is listed on website James Edition, which is kind of like eBay for millionaires.
As well as looking exactly like the vehicle in the movies, this Tumbler replica also comes loaded with high spec technology and features. For example, it sports 44-inch Super Swamper tyres, custom cut windows, GPS, five cameras located around the vehicle to help with parking and generally seeing what’s around you, a powerful sound system with Bluetooth, iPod integration, CD and DVD player, and finally, a Chevrolet LS1 V-8 engine under the bonnet.
Street legal and safe?
One of the main selling points of this vehicle is that it has been designed and built to be street legal – street legal that is in the USA. Any American collectors of rare and unusual vehicles will obviously be delighted with this, although how safe the car would actually be to drive on everyday streets remains a question. Because of the unusual shape of the vehicle, visibility is poorer than in a regular vehicle, hence the five cameras. Then of course there is the issue of safety for pedestrians, seeing as this vehicle parked for more than a few minutes is going to command quite a crowd. For potential overseas buyers such as those here in the UK, it is difficult to know whether the vehicle would be legal to drive here. Whenever a vehicle is imported to another country it is important to check these facts with the local authority, and it is hard to know what the DVLA would make this.

How are you going to insure this?
Even buyers in the USA may find it very difficult to ensure this vehicle. How exactly are car insurance companies going to provide a quote for a car when there are only five in existence? For UK buyers, one company which could help is Kwik-Fit Insurance. One of the most helpful insurers around, they provide versatile insurance for all manner of vehicles.
Given the rarity of the vehicle, it is also pretty tricky to work out just how fuel-efficient the vehicle would be, but having said that, if you’re splashing out $1 million on it, you’re probably not going to be too fussed anyway. All we do know is that this replica is a rear wheel drive automatic, powered by a 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V-8 engine with approximately 310 horsepower. Certainly doesn’t sound like the MPG is going to be very good, does it? In reality, whoever buys this vehicle is unlikely to be driving it very often, and it is more likely to be sat in a showroom for most of its existence.
